Crestmoor Multi-Use Fields Project
The San Mateo Union High School District owned a 40-acre parcel at 300 Piedmont Avenue in San Bruno, known as the former Crestmoor High School. The District has an agreement with SummerHill Homes LLC for its sale, though it currently retains ownership.
Residential Development and Land Dedication
In June 2024, SummerHill received City approval to develop a subdivision, including new streets, homes, and 6.91 acres dedicated to the City. Of this, 5.3 acres will be used for public fields, and 1.61 acres on the east side of Courtland Drive will support recreational activities like walking paths and parking.
Crestmoor Multi-Use Fields Master Plan
Initiated in January 2023, the Crestmoor Multi-Use Fields Master Plan Project aims to design public soccer fields and amenities for the 6.91 acres. The City hired Callander Associates Landscape Architects (CALA) to lead community engagement, develop a preferred master plan, and create detailed improvement plans.
Following extensive community input, the Draft Crestmoor Fields Master Plan was presented to the City Council, which then gave direction on its finalization. The plan includes striping for eight soccer fields on 5.3 acres, picnic areas, shelters, restrooms, a concession building, on-site parking, and a drop-off zone.
Budget Analysis
The estimated cost to complete the project as shown in the Master Plan is estimated between $9.2 million and $11.2 million in 2023, with a 10% annual construction inflation rate.
2025
December
On December 9, 2025, the San Bruno City Council approved a Baseline Improvement Agreement with Toll Brothers to construct the new Crestmoor Fields for an amount not to exceed $6.6 million. This collaboration leverages City impact-fee credits and prior grant funding from the San Bruno Community Foundation (SBCF).
With this approval, the City has submitted a proposal to the SBCF for grant funding for lights at the new facility. The Foundation is expected to consider this request at their regular meeting on January 7, 2026, 7pm ( San Bruno Recreation and Aquatic Center, 251 City Parkway).
Adding field lighting now, in coordination with the developer’s construction, is the most cost-effective and least disruptive opportunity to deliver a complete, high-quality athletic facility for San Bruno residents. We appreciate the continued partnership of the San Bruno Community Foundation, Toll Brothers, and our local youth sports organizations in bringing this project to life. Updates will continue to be shared as milestones are reached.
JANUARY
In January 2025, we are excited to share the latest developments regarding the Crestmoor Park Phase One project. This initiative continues to hold significant promise as a vital recreational asset, particularly for active soccer use, and reflects the collaborative vision of the City, School District, Developer, and the San Carlos Foundation.
The City officially entered into a contract with architectural design firm CALA to prepare construction documents delineating the park improvements and provide support during bidding and construction.
