Switching your computer to DHCP
These simple step-by-step instructions are provided so that you can reconfigure your computer yourself. If you encounter difficulties switching over to DHCP, or would like to be walked through the process, please call the helpdesk at 650-616-3100 during regular business hours.

Windows 2000 and XP
1. Click on the Start button
2. Point to Settings and click on Control Panel
3. Double-click on the Network and Dial-up Connections icon
4. Right click on Local area connection, choose properties
5. In the General tab, select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click on properties
6. In the TCP/IP Properties tab, click the "Obtain an IP Address automatically" option.The IP address in the "Use the following IP Address" section should become inactive, shown by turning a gray color.
7. Click "OK" and restart your computer.
8. After restarting, click on the Start button, then click on the Run button, and type type "cmd" in the box. Click "OK"
9. Type in "ipconfig /all" at the prompt. Note that there is a space between 'ipconfig' and the slash.
10. When all the numbers appear:
Make sure that you have an adapter IP address that starts "65.172...." or "63.161... or "204.95"
For the "65.172" block, the Subnet Mask should be "255.255.248.0"
For the "63.161" block, the Subnet Mask should be "255.255.254.0"
For the "204.95" block, the subnet mask should be "255.255.252.0"
Your Default Gateway should be "65.172.232.1", or "63.161.222.1", or "204.95.16.1" depending on your assignment.

Windows NT
1. Click on the Start button
2. Point to Settings and click on Control Panel
3. Double-click on the Network icon
4 Choose the Protocols tab, then double-click on the TCP/IP icon, or click once on the TCP/IP icon (the fourth in the list shown below), and click the Properties button
5. In the IP Address tab, click the "Detect IP Address automatically" option.
6. Click "OK" and restart your computer.
7. To check if the change was successful click on the Start button and then go to Programs. Choose the Command Prompt from the list of programs.
8. Type in "ipconfig /all" at the prompt. Note that there is a space between 'ipconfig' and the slash.
9. When all the numbers appear:
Make sure that you have an adapter IP address that starts "65.172...." or "63.161... or "204.95"
For the "65.172" block, the Subnet Mask should be "255.255.248.0"
For the "63.161" block, the Subnet Mask should be "255.255.254.0"
For the "204.95" block, the subnet mask should be "255.255.252.0"
Your Default Gateway should be "65.172.232.1", or "63.161.222.1", or "204.95.16.1" depending on your assignment.

3. Under Internet & Network, click Network
4. Click "Assist Me" at bottom of page
5. Location Name: sanbrunocable.com, then continue
6. Click "I use a cable modem to connect to the Internet", then continue
7. Continue
8. Quit
